Random Wednesday

It's Wednesday, ya'll and guess what?! One week from today at this time I will have a newborn baby in my arms.  Can we say hallelujah. Is it sad I just googled how to spell "hallelujah"?

1) I'm ready to pop. Every bone, muscle, hair and joint in my body is killing me. Aching back, heartburn like no other, waddling like honey boo boo's mama (never watched it, just assuming) it's not pretty. Thank god this baby isn't coming out of my vajayjay....I don't think he'd fit!!

2) I've never watched Honey Boo Boo. Not one.single.episode.  I kind of feel like there's some stuff going on there that I won't be able to unsee and unknow and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that.

3) I haven't been inside Target since July. JULY, folks. I've been so miserable the past few months it really is a miracle when I put on something other than pajamas. I am having serious withdrawals. There's nothing more therapeutic than roaming the aisles and spending $100 more than you intended to. Target, I need you and I'm sorry I've abandoned you. Soon, my friend.

4) FAVORITE SHOW EVER.  How can you judge me with lines like the one above?? I think the reason I like Golden Girls so much is because it's not overly politically correct.  Very very rarely do I laugh at loud at a show, and GG has me in fits. P.S. Hallmark channel if you're reading this, cut out the horrible made for tv christmas/love/dead dog movies and put Golden Girls back on the air!

Pinterest Loves

Too often I see something I really like on pinterest, hit repin, and that's the end of it. I've never made a recipe (even though my recipe board is full), never made any of the cute homemade crafts, I didn't put a bar of soap in my microwave (doesn't sound like a good idea) and I didn't make those jello shots out of orange peels. Early New Years resolution maybe? Bake more yummies, create more, drink more.....sounds good to me. Anyway, here's some things I'm lovin this week on good ol' pinterest.

Call me a dork but I'm a sucker for saving money. Before any online purchase you'll find me googling to the ends of the internet for promo codes. I'm a little crazy about it actually haha.  Thanks to the AWESOME ShellyNoBelly I just ordered christmas cards for $2. $2! Wanna know how?

On Raising Boys

Ok, so technically I haven't raised boys yet. I've got a 5 year old, so I've got a while to go before I can consider him "raised", but with the arrival of my second son just around the corner it got me thinking. Thinking of how much my life has changed since entering parenthood. How much more enriched (albeit challenging) it's become. It's not something you can really describe to someone without kids.  We all want to raise our children the best we can, feed them the healthiest foods, buy them the nicest clothes, newest toys....but what about supplying them with the things money can't buy like honesty, loyalty, gentleness and an enviable work ethic?  In order for him to grow to be a man he can be proud of, I strive daily to follow some points of advice I've come across in my few short years of parenting:

1)   Show affection - At the end of the day I will never question whether or not my son knows I love him. I tell him when he's brushing his teeth, I yell it across the road, I say it when he's in trouble, when he's sad, mad, hurt, irritated. I'm always giving him hugs, squeezes and kisses even when he's quick to resist them.  "Men who give affection freely grew up getting it".

2)  Respect for others - Always treat other adults in his life with respect. This one is really lead by example.  Boys will respect someone who's not a doormat. When he breaks a rule, there are consequences, no ifs ands or buts (admittedly I need work on this).  This all boils down to making sure he listens to authority figures, obeys rules and deals with conflict in a caring way. That paves the road for a respectful young man.

3)  Self Esteem - For the most part Liam marches to the tune of his own wild drum. The only time he's ever shown any insecurity is when he got his first pair of eyeglasses. He was a little worried at first that his classmates would think he looked weird, but after a quick pep talk, he braved his Kindergarten class and guess what? He was fine!  We always recognize and praise his efforts, speak to him with respect and celebrate Liam for being Liam.

4)  Empathy -  This is a big one for me. Teaching my son to walk in someone else's shoes is, in my opinion, one of the most important in this list.  A few times he's come home from school complaining that he missed recess because while playing he pushed someone or laughed at another.  Now Liam knows that in our house bullying never has been and never will be ok.  So when he tells me these things I am quick to remind him of how hurtful it is when other people make fun of him or push him and how we treat others how we would like to be treated in return.

So there's the big four.  I really had about 4 other points I wanted to throw in there, but I am dead tired and can save it for another day!  Night, all!

Thankful Thursday

It's always nice to take a step back and think about all the little things we use/have that no matter how small they may be, how much they make a difference.  I'm guilty of taking everyday things for granted, so I thought it'd be a good exercise to take some time each week to appreciate the little things that make my life just a little bit better!

Dress Not just a dress, but dresses with pockets. Style and function is a must for this mama. Doesn't hurt that this specific one is A-DORABLE!

philosophy skincare My love for Philosophy doesn't end with eye gels. Every one of their products I've tried I've fallen in love with. 

 Beauty product For the bath taking fanatic I've got one word for you: LUSH. While I love me a good bubbly bath, sometimes I like to soak without the bubbles. Enter the bath bomb. Not only do they make skin super soft, they smell awesome too. 

 Love Letter Art Original Photography World Vintage Brown Globe Color... Scrabble. Only kidding. While I will openly admit I'm addicted to Words with Friends, I was thinking more along the lines of actual love. Specifically my guy. If it weren't for him I'd be curled up in the fetal position saying "crayon" over and over again in the corner of a dark room my whole pregnancy. Then again, if it weren't for him I wouldn't be miserably pregnant so....

Hospital Hottie Adult Women's Costume Hot nurses. Actually, where I was wanting to go with this was modern medicine and what better way to represent that than a scantily clad nurse?? Being two weeks away from a scheduled c-section I can't stress how awesome modern medicine is. (Kind of goes without saying but....) After watching the last episode of The Walking Dead **SPOILER** I am so glad I will be in the comfort of a hospital with trained doctors, a sterile environment and MAJOR pain pills. 


So there we have it, ladies. Also, pardon my overuse of polyvore and bunk links I'll be using until I get with the decade and purchase Photoshop. You'd think I just discovered the internet yesterday :)

Total 90's Kid

Being grossly, hugely pregnant I watch WAY more TV than I'd like to admit. While flipping through channels trying to find another station airing Roseanne marathons, I came across a childhood favorite of mine and it got me thinking of all things 90's. Remember this?

Oh JTT. You were everything my elementary heart could dream of. My best friend and I had a fan 

club.  Yep, with real meetings, homemade shirts and all. How I have ever had friends is beyond me. 

This movie was everywhere I wanted to be. Andrew Keegan was a total fox and the blond in that little crop top? My idol.

Now I happen to think Rodney Dangerfield is pretty obnoxious. Back in the day? Gold. I watched this movie on repeat. Vinessa Shaw is so cute and I remember being so jealous of her. She was the ultimate 90's babe. Wikipedia just informed me Johnathan Brandis hung himself....sad!

If I could get back all the money my mom spent on Lisa Frank school supplies, I'd probably have about $5000, no joke. I had EVERYTHING, folders, binders, pencils, pencil holders, sticker books (complete with 438423 stickers a page) flasks, cigarettes...jk. But I probably would have them if they had existed.

Looking back now, this show was so so so cheesy and, well, flat out dumb! But back then, it sure did scare the hell out of little me. Especially the episode about the hound dogs. Can't really remember much more than that.

Anytime I bring this up to friends they look at me like I'm crazy. I can't be the only little kid who owned a pillow person?!

Teddy Ruxpin. He was my best friend. The Bert to my Ernie, the peanut butter to my jelly. I swear the toy company started producing him again a few years back, maybe not. Miss you dude!

Mcnugget toys! One year for Christmas my parents bought me a drive through Mcdonald's playset. It's a wonder I'm not 300 pounds.

The boy band. Again, I had it all....coloring books, nightgowns and a saturday morning cartoon. Who'd have known history would repeat itself and I'd be a pathetic die hard Backstreet Boy fan a decade later?

Thanks mom, for buying me the coolest, most bubbly gummiest shoes ever created.

Again, had every set. I wonder how much these babies would be worth today?

That was a longer walk down memory lane than I had planned. I've come to the conclusion that no kids childhood will ever have as much awesome shit as kids who grew up during late 80's-early 90's.  I'll have to go through old photo albums and share some personal photos of little Amber. I had it made!
