L's Birthday Bounce

Last weekend was spent celebrating the birthday of my oldest, Liam.  Saturday we opened gifts, ate the homemade three layer green velvet cake, oreo truffles, and chocolate dipped strawberries, then he ditched me to hang out with my sister all day. Also, he didn't like my cake.  Awesome.

Yeah I suck at frosting cakes.

Then on Sunday we had L's birthday celebration at Bounce U.  Basically, it's everything bounce.
Bounce houses, slides, "rock" climbing, bounce boxing ring.  (The gloves were, no joke, about 10 pounds each.)

L had a great time, and ya know what?!  I did too.  I bought myself a pair of socks and went to town, climbing up, sliding down, boxing.  A mama's gotta let loose sometimes too!

Thanks for telling me my shirt was unbuttoned, babe.

Six sweet, wonderful, sometimes horrifying years with that guy.  I'm a lucky sumbitch.

4 Months

So a few days ago I posted about procrastinating, and here we are 3+ weeks after munchkin became the ripe old age of 4 months, and I'm barely posting about it.

Get it together, woman!

This month you are:

sitting supported (still have that wobbly head though)
eating rice cereal
not digging your high chair
chewing on everything. mostly your hands
kicking your legs like crazy during bathtime (well, anytime really) but especially bathtime
sleeping through the night.  PRAISE GOD!
less fussy
putting yourself to sleep
a tummy sleeper
rolling over in all directions
scoot, scootin' all over the room
squealing, complaining and "talking"

We love you so much, bug.  It's the cutest thing when you see brother or daddy after them being gone all day.  Your face lights up in the brightest, best way and it melts me every. single. time.

Country Thunder 2013

Due to some unfortunate events, I had to cancel my country thunder visit this year.

SO BUMMED.

Those not from AZ or WI  - Country Thunder is a 4 day country music festival held out in the desert once a year.  Everyone packs up their RV's, trailers, trucks, cars and U-Hauls (Yes, I've seen people camping out in the back of a u-haul at CT).  Anything goes - and it does.

Some of the very best memories have taken place at Country Thunder, so to say I'm a little sad about not being there this year would be an understatement.  BUT a girl can dream, so I came up with some collages of what I would be wearing if I were there right now.

Julep Maven

I think it's safe to say most of us get excited about mail.  I'm no exception considering I subscribe to Birchbox, Julep Maven and am considering signing up for Glossybox.  There's something to be said for surprises in the mail, the good old fashioned way.

Love their packaging.  Before you sign up you take a style quiz and they send a box each month based on the results.  Beauty part?  You can opt out for a month, send your subscription to someone else, and pick a different "style" if you want to mix it up.  Pretty neat!

My box - Classic With a Twist.  Came with two full sized nail polishes, rock candy, & cuticle and nail serum.
I am super in love with the pink color.  It's SO much brighter in person (more of a fuchsia) and the red is a bright cherry red.  Perfect for spring!

Julep Mavens receive 20% off everything on Julep, free shipping, and every box you purchase you're entered to win a "Golden Box" worth up to $500.

No, I was not compensated in any way by Julep for this post, I just really really love getting my boxes every month.  Of all the colors I have, I think there's only one I didn't really care for.  There is always a promo code for your first box (either free or $0.01) so there's no reason not to try it!

Sign up here and let me know what you think!

I'll do it tomorrow....

Procrastinate - v.
To put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.
To postpone or delay needlessly.

I don't want to write this post right now.  In fact, It will probably sit in my drafts for a week or so
until I'm in the mood to write something.
I've got a lot of sitting around doing nothing that I need to get back to.

I don't even know why I am such a bad procrastinator considering how good it feels to get
things accomplished.  I took to google for some tips on getting motivated and thought I'd share my findings with anyone else who's in the same boat I am.

1. Don't overthink it.
This is the one I'm probably most guilty of.  It could be something as small as calling to cancel
a magazine subscription. (I kept a subscription for 5 years simply because I kept putting of calling to cancel.  I didn't read one magazine from that service.)
I'd be wanting to start my spring cleaning for weeks but put it off because just the thought of it
overwhelmed me.  The longer you think about it the bigger it gets.  Adding to that, the more you think about it, the more it makes the task seem like a negative thing.
Stop thinking, begin doing

2.  Give yourself a deadline
I find that I'm more productive towards the end of the day/evening.  Part of that is so Steve doesn't
know I just sat around doing nothing all day (sorry, but it's true) and part because I am not a morning person.  This could be true at work too, if you're more productive after lunch it's not practical
to start something in the morning.  Give yourself a certain time you need something done by and do it!
The guilt I feel after a missed deadline is enough to make me get off my a*s and make sure it
gets done on time next time.

3.  Get rid of distractions
Figure out what it is that you're easily distracted by (computer, phone, ipad, tv, food) and get yourself
away from it!  Turn your phone off, snack before you begin, put e-mail notifications on silent and get your butt in gear!

4. Take baby steps
Sometimes things can seem so big and overwhelming we're left wondering where to even begin!
Take one small step, one tiny little step and that will get you rollin' I promise.  Yard work getting you down? Pull one little weed, and if you're a total freak like me who gets satisfaction out of pulling those little suckers out by their horrible roots, you'll have the whole yard done in no time.  All it takes is that first initial step!

Those are the more helpful tips I've found that apply to me and my life personally.
Anything you've tried that works?? I'm desperate here, ladies.

March Birchbox Review

Do you Birchbox?
I love seeing what people got in their box every month and LOVE finding new products.
Pre Birchbox I would buy full size products and be sh*t out of luck if I didn't like it.
Let's just say I'm kind of obsessed with getting a box of surprises in my mailbox each month.
For March, these are the things I received:

1. Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream $20/full size - Interesting.  I neither hated nor loved this product.  That could be because the last time I used shaving cream was when my mom first allowed me to shave my legs, so I proceeded to shave every single day (sometimes 2x a day. Loser)  Honestly it didn't make enough of a difference for me to justify paying $20 for a bottle, so I'll pass.

2. Benefit Benetint $29/0.4 fl oz - Love it.  I can't believe I haven't tried the tint before getting it in the box, seeing as how it's Benefit's best seller. I haven't used it on my cheeks (blush application scares me) but love it on my lips.  It dries like a stain, leaving a natural rosy tint to my lips without being glossy.  Very pretty. Would absolutely purchase.

3. Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment $39.95/full size - This product promises to repair damaged hair and add shine.  It does work very well.  I mix it in with a leave in styling cream and let hair air dry.  It is noticeably smoother and softer, but for the price I think I will keep looking for a comparable product.

4.  Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque $36/full size - Basically the same exact thing as the previous product, but this one is a deep conditioner that is washed out.  Left my hair very, very soft and didn't weigh it down, but like the previous product, I'll keep looking for something a little more affordable.

5.  Supergoop! Antioxidant Infused Sunscreen $19/full size - Full coverage sun protection with Vitamin C would be perfect for a day outside.  I didn't receive a mist, I received a face and body lotion, which in my opinion is waaaay too thick and greasy to go on my face, but the lack of parabens, oxybenzone and fragrances might make up for that.  At $20 a bottle and living in a state that's 95% sunny year-round, it's not realistic for me to spend that much money on sunscreen.  Pass.

6. Madewell for Birchbox Emery Board $5 - Super cute and who couldn't use an extra emery board?  I'd buy it for sure!

The $10 I pay a month for Birchbox more than makes up for the amount of money I've wasted on products I didn't love.  Sign up here!

6 on 6th

Happy 6th birthday to my firstborn!

Life has certainly been a lot more interesting with you around.  Questioning everything, already proclaiming your dislike of school, bad guys and Justin Bieber.

Your favorite food is lamb (fancypants) and you actually love helping out with yardwork (as long as you're getting paid).

You're still little enough to sneak into mama's bed, and kiss me goodbye at the bus stop, but big enough to do get yourself ready for school and help with your brother.  Perfect balance if you ask me.

Love you buddy!
